• The gate opens for some codes but not others. When Elite keypads fail, they often lose memory sectors for specific user codes. One resident works fine, the other doesn’t. That’s a failing keypad memory chip, not a programming issue, and no amount of reprogramming fixes it.
• Gate opens by itself at odd hours or stays open. A cracked keypad housing lets morning dew and sprinkler overspray onto the circuit board. In Torrance, where marine layer moisture is a factor year-round, we see intermittent self-triggering from corrosion bridging traces on the board.
• Intercom buzzes but you can’t hear the visitor, or they can’t hear you. Elite telephone entry pedestals die in layers: first the speaker, then the microphone circuit, then the relay board. If audio has gotten quieter over months, the speaker driver is failing.
