FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Torrance Owner’s Guide

If your FAAC gate has a cracked hinge, a sheared bracket, or a weld that let go on the arm assembly, we stock and install FAAC-compatible welding and fabrication parts in Torrance, with most repairs running between $240 and $680 installed, depending on the part and how much fabrication the frame needs. We keep common FAAC brackets, hinge assemblies, and arm reinforcement plates on our trucks, so many of these jobs are done same day. The way owners usually find us is simple: the gate starts sagging, or it binds halfway through travel, or they hear metal on metal and look up to see a failed weld where the operator arm connects to the leaf.

We’re an independent service provider in Torrance, not affiliated with FAAC. That matters because it means we can tell you honestly when a quality aftermarket bracket does the job for less, and when you should stay with the FAAC-made part.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

Most of the welding and fabrication work we do on FAAC gates in Torrance falls across the 400, 770, and C720/C721 series swing operators, plus the 844 and 884 sliding gate lines. The failure points are consistent: the articulated arm brackets on swing operators, the rack mounts on sliders, and the hinge posts that carry the gate leaf. The C720 and C721 models are everywhere in Torrance’s newer subdivisions, and their arm bracket takes more load than most owners realize because the leaf span tends to be wider than on older installations.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha worth knowing: FAAC uses metric hardware on their articulated arm assemblies, and the mounting hole spacing on a 400 series arm bracket does not match the 770 series. If you buy a bracket based on “it looks the same,” you end up drilling new holes or, worse, forcing a bolt pattern that misaligns the arm and burns out the operator. Check the metal tag on the operator body. It will say the model and serial number. Take a photo of it before you order anything, and measure center-to-center hole spacing on the bracket. We match those measurements before any part leaves our truck.

For aftermarket versus OEM: on static brackets and reinforcement plates, a properly fabricated stainless or powder-coated steel bracket from a known supplier performs as well as FAAC’s part and often costs 30 to 40 percent less. Where we have not seen aftermarket hold up is on articulated arm joints, where the bushing tolerances matter and slop develops early in cheaper copies. Tell us your model and we’ll tell you which parts we would not compromise on.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • Gate leaf sags toward the latch side. The weld on the lower hinge is cracking or the hinge post plate has fatigued. The gate carries its full weight on that lower weld, and once it starts to go, the leaf drops fast.
  • Operator arm clunks mid-travel. The pivot bracket on the gate leaf has wallowed out its bolt holes. The arm has play where it should be tight, and the operator motor pushes against slop instead of leaf weight.
  • Scrape marks on the gate frame near the operator. The arm is contacting the leaf because a bracket twisted out of plane. This is failed fabrication, not a motor problem, and adjusting limit switches will not fix it.
  • Gate stops hard at one point, then jumps. A rack section on a slider has separated from its welds and the drive gear skips teeth over the gap. We see this on older FAAC 844 installations where the rack was welded to a rusted rail.
  • Visible crack at any weld bead, especially around hinge plates. This is the one to take seriously. A full crack means the weld has parted. The gate is hanging on the remaining bead and the leaf can shift fall or bind unpredictably.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Torrance FAAC gate owners, here are the price ranges we quote before we start any work. A single hinge bracket replacement with fabrication cleanup runs $240 to $380 installed. Operator arm bracket replacement on a C720 runs $280 to $480. Full reinforcement of a fatigued hinge post with a fabricated steel plate runs $420 to $680. If the hinge post itself is structurally compromised, we quote the post replacement separately, because that involves digging and concrete.

Every quote includes the part, fabrication labor, welding consumables, grinding and cleanup, re-alignment of the operator arm, and a photo record of every step. The price we hand you before work starts is the price you pay. That is Haven Standard Clause 1, and we have operated that way in Torrance since day one. Under Clause 4, you get a documented photo log of the old part, the new part, and the final weld before we leave.

All fabrication work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the weld fails or the bracket shifts within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. No argument, no pro-rating.

Welding on a gate that weighs several hundred pounds is not a weekend project. When a hinge weld fails, that leaf is under constant tension and the remaining metal is carrying the load. One wrong cut, one bad bead, and the gate drops or the spring assembly releases energy unpredictably. We say this plainly because we have seen the aftermath in Torrance driveways: broken operators, bent gate frames, and owners who thought a home welder and a YouTube video would save them six hundred dollars.

What you can do safely is take photos and measurements. Photo of the operator tag. Photo of the failed weld or cracked bracket. Measurement of bracket hole spacing. With that information, we can tell you over the phone whether it is a bracket swap or full fabrication, and usually quote it before we dispatch. If you are not sure, call us at (424) 373-8425 and describe what you see. We will tell you straight whether it needs a technician or just a visual check.
